Sculpture is not just volume, but an event.
It is in the act itself — the cut, the pressure,
the invisible trace of weight — where the work takes on meaning.
Ricardo Rendón, MOMENTOS DE EJECUCION — 2025
In MOMENTOS DE EJECUCION, Ricardo Rendón confronts us with time trapped in matter. His series of sculptures are not static objects, but rather records of a precise action, of a gesture in which the form is subjected to the execution of the creative act. The work occurs at the moment when the steel is bent, at the moment when the perforation breaks through the wool felt, or when gravity dictates the drawing of a cable tensioned by a brass plumb line. Each of these pieces becomes the trace of a process, the material residue of an irreversible action.
From the force applied to the structure to the precarious balance of a suspended weight, Rendón reminds us that sculpture is not just volume, but an event. It is in the act itself — the cut, the pressure, the invisible trace of weight — where the work takes on meaning. These actions, although already completed, remain latent in the object, as if each material still remembered the friction of its transformation. These are not just finished forms, but evidence of a movement that brought them into being.
Rendón invites us to read the material as a score of frozen gestures, to find in each perforation and fold the memory of an instant that has already happened but is still present. In this game between execution and permanence, his work confronts us with the paradox of sculpture as a fixed time that, however, never stops being in process. Each piece is proof that the work is not only contemplated, but remembered: it is not only what it is, but what it has been and what it continues to be in its material presence.
