BOSQUE DESNUDO

Bosque Desnudo is an installation of hand-lathed trunks designed specifically for the Gamboa gallery of the Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM). This work links the contemporary artistic production with the reuse of natural materials seized by illegal logging; and with the recovery of manufacture processes like the labor of woodturning. The project establishes a dialogue with the architectural language of the building through the union of its exterior garden and the interior space, circumstance that has marked the history of the building. Recapturing this idea, Bosque Desnudo links the exhibition space with the exterior through the transparence of the structure; an answer to the ideal of the conception of the museum: the integration of the contemporary work with the surrounding environment.

Among the fundamental ideas that enclose the production of Rendón - and take part in this installation, are: the production as a reflection on the concept of labor, the exploration of the difference between natural and manufactured; highlight the handling or intervention of working materials, the work as a document of the artistic execution, the recognition of the context of each work to choose the area of production, and finally highlight the performative nature that involves his production. The exhibition offers the spectator a space of free circulation, a trip between a built, interior forest; an allegory of a visit on the Chapultepec Park, place that lodges the Museum since 1964.

Bosque Desnudo de Ricardo Rendón consiste en una instalación de troncos torneados a mano diseñada específicamente para la Sala Gamboa del MAM. Esta obra vincula la producción artística contemporánea con el reuso de materiales naturales decomisados por tala ilegal y con la recuperación y diálogo con procesos de manufactura como el oficio de torneado. El proyecto busca establecer un diálogo con el lenguaje arquitectónico del edificio entre el espacio del jardín y el espacio interior, ya que transgrede ilusoriamente una de sus características que es la transparencia de los cristales que permiten ver hacia el exterior, de esta manera la instalación hace una especie de conexión continua entre ambos espacios.

Entre las premisas fundamentales que rodean el proceso de producción de Rendón -y que participan en esta pieza- están: usar herramientas y procedimientos como vía de reflexión sobre el trabajo; la exploración sobre la diferencia entre lo natural y lo manufacturado; resaltar la manipulación o intervención de los materiales; establecer una función en la obra como registro de la ejecución artística; reconocer los contextos de cada obra para elegir la materia de producción, y finalmente resaltar el carácter performático que conlleva el proceso de producción como artista.

La exposición ofrece al espectador un espacio de libre circulación entre las esculturas que se asemeja al Bosque de Chapultepec, lugar que alberga al Museo.
