Linea de Trabajo is a site specific intervention created by Ricardo Rendón in 2004 at Márquez Sterling #29, Mexico City. The work explores the physical transformation of space through manual labor, tracing a line across the wooden floor of the interior space. Using a hand plane, the artist removed a thin layer of material, leaving behind a visible incision that runs through the room — a physical record of the action performed.
The accumulated wood shavings scattered along the groove become evidence of the process, turning the act of work itself into the artwork. The piece engages directly with the architecture of the site, responding to the existing conditions of the space and establishing a dialogue between the body, the tool, and the material. In this early work, Rendón already demonstrates his ongoing concern with the nature of labor, the trace of gesture, and the poetics of manual intervention.
Variable in its dimensions according to the space it inhabits, Linea de Trabajo exists as both a permanent alteration and a temporal document — the floor bears the scar of the action long after the shavings have been swept away.
