In Circuito Abierto Cerrado, Ricardo Rendón transforms the gallery space into an activated electrical network, using industrial conduit, light bulbs, and outlets to draw attention to the invisible infrastructure that powers our daily lives. The installation traces the path of electricity through the space — from wall to floor to ceiling — making visible the systems we typically ignore.
The work operates on the tension between open and closed circuits: a closed circuit completes the path, allowing current to flow and light to emerge; an open circuit breaks that path, leaving darkness. Rendón arranges these elements in rhythmic sequences across the gallery walls, creating a visual score that mirrors the logic of electrical flow itself.
By exposing the raw mechanics of conductivity — metal conduit, ceramic sockets, exposed wiring — Rendón strips away the layers of concealment that normally hide these systems from view. The gallery becomes both a functional electrical diagram and a meditation on connectivity, interruption, and the conditions required for energy to manifest as light.

En Circuito Abierto Cerrado, Ricardo Rendón transforma el espacio de la galería en una red eléctrica activada, utilizando conduit industrial, focos y contactos para llamar la atención sobre la infraestructura invisible que alimenta nuestra vida cotidiana. La instalación traza el recorrido de la electricidad a través del espacio — de pared a piso a techo — haciendo visible los sistemas que típicamente ignoramos.
La obra opera sobre la tensión entre circuitos abiertos y cerrados: un circuito cerrado completa el camino, permitiendo que la corriente fluya y la luz emerja; un circuito abierto interrumpe ese camino, dejando oscuridad. Rendón dispone estos elementos en secuencias rítmicas a lo largo de las paredes de la galería, creando una partitura visual que refleja la lógica del flujo eléctrico mismo.
Al exponer la mecánica cruda de la conductividad — conduit metálico, sockets de cerámica, cableado expuesto — Rendón elimina las capas de ocultamiento que normalmente esconden estos sistemas de la vista. La galería se convierte tanto en un diagrama eléctrico funcional como en una meditación sobre la conectividad, la interrupción y las condiciones requeridas para que la energía se manifieste como luz.
