In Instante Presente, Ricardo Rendón continues his ongoing investigation into the transformation of matter through manual processes, focusing on the ephemeral nature of the present moment as both a temporal condition and a physical state. The works in this exhibition occupy a threshold between what has just occurred and what is about to happen — capturing the instability of the now.
Working with industrial felt, steel cable, and pigmented concrete, Rendón constructs systems that appear to be in motion even when static. The tension between materials — soft and hard, flexible and rigid, porous and dense — becomes a metaphor for the tension inherent in present time: always slipping away, yet perpetually arriving.
The central installation, Sistema de Presencia, spans the main gallery with a configuration of suspended brass plumbs and steel cables that subdivide the space into shifting geometric zones. Visitors must navigate around and through the work, their own bodies becoming part of the system of relations. The piece responds to the slightest air currents, making the invisible visible through gentle oscillation.
On the walls, a new series of Trayectorias extends the pendulum-based works first developed in 2019. Here, Rendón has refined the mechanism to produce even more delicate traces, using a perforated weight filled with graphite rather than enamel. The resulting drawings on raw steel possess a spectral quality — marks that seem to have appeared rather than been made.
Rendón's practice remains rooted in the conviction that manual labor is not the opposite of conceptual rigor but its necessary complement. Each gesture carries the weight of intention; each material choice encodes a philosophical position. In Instante Presente, that position is one of radical attention: the willingness to be fully present to the moment of making, and to trust that such presence will transmit itself to the viewer.

En Instante Presente, Ricardo Rendón continúa su investigación continua sobre la transformación de la materia a través de procesos manuales, centrándose en la naturaleza efímera del momento presente como condición temporal y estado físico. Las obras en esta exposición ocupan un umbral entre lo que acaba de ocurrir y lo que está por suceder — capturando la inestabilidad del ahora.
Trabajando con fieltro industrial, cable de acero y concreto pigmentado, Rendón construye sistemas que parecen estar en movimiento incluso cuando son estáticos. La tensión entre materiales — blando y duro, flexible y rígido, poroso y denso — se convierte en metáfora de la tensión inherente al tiempo presente: siempre escapándose, perpetuamente llegando.
La instalación central, Sistema de Presencia, atraviesa la galería principal con una configuración de plomadas de latón y cables de acero que subdividen el espacio en zonas geométricas cambiantes. Los visitantes deben navegar alrededor y a través de la obra, sus propios cuerpos convirtiéndose en parte del sistema de relaciones.
En las paredes, una nueva serie de Trayectorias extiende los trabajos basados en péndulo desarrollados por primera vez en 2019. Aquí, Rendón ha refinado el mecanismo para producir trazos aún más delicados, utilizando una plomada perforada llena de grafito en lugar de esmalte. Los dibujos resultantes sobre acero crudo poseen una cualidad espectral — marcas que parecen haber aparecido en lugar de haber sido hechas.
La práctica de Rendón permanece arraigada en la convicción de que el trabajo manual no es lo opuesto a la rigurosidad conceptual sino su complemento necesario. Cada gesto carga con el peso de la intención; cada elección material codifica una posición filosófica. En Instante Presente, esa posición es una de atención radical: la disposición de estar plenamente presente en el momento de hacer, y de confiar en que dicha presencia se transmitirá al espectador.
