The skin as a vehicle of habitability and comfort,
shelter and protection, giving the physical corporeality
of man human category in his continuous struggle
for permanence and transcendence within his environment.

Rupestre

For an artist, abstracting his vision of the world through the development of material techniques, diverse forms, and specific codes of his environment for the construction of works of art, is a vital necessity. It is an act of genuine bipolarity between the attraction and aversion to his reality, generating aesthetic situations parallel to "that" which composes his cosmogony, in a conscious or generally unconscious search for a truth of his own. Art and its crafts are a tangential state of life, insofar as works of art do not necessarily represent a supposed reality of the world; they generate alternatives to it as a parallel to the stable truth agreed upon by any given society, granting the resulting consequences of said practice their justification as open statements. More than tacit affirmations, works of art should be understood as questions and invitations to multiple banquets of knowledge.

The mystery and sensuality of the forms emitted by the poetics of artists can be related to the basic needs of man in terms of his physical, sensory, ideological, and sentimental survival, in careful attention to the connection between history and what derives from it: tradition, language, aesthetics, and identity. An example of this is the formal vestiges of multidisciplinary artist Ricardo Rendón (Mexico City 1970), who has integrated within his artistic process the research, exploration, and development of traditional trades — carpentry, masonry, electricity, and in this case techniques derived from the practice of furriery — as part of his reflection on the processes involved within creative knowledge, in a kind of symbolic alchemy that seeks to transform the raw material he uses into a plastic essay, connecting the limits of spatial, physical, and material singularity of his system within the languages of contemporary art. The skin as a vehicle of habitability and comfort, shelter and protection, which gives the physical corporeality of man human category, in his continuous struggle for his permanence and transcendence within his environment.

RUPESTRE is then, a compendium of formal events that projects traditional trades as anthropological analysis through the activation of a specific space (The City of León Guanajuato), opening a possible reflection within the artisanal tradition of the city and the significant expansion of human needs, from the aesthetics derived from said practices evoking the nature of forms.
