In Trabajo con Concreto, Ricardo Rendón constructs a dialogue between two opposing materials: the fluid, heavy nature of concrete and the warm, organic presence of wood. The platforms, arranged in variable configurations throughout the space, establish a direct relationship with the architecture of Centro Cultural El Atrio and with the bodies of the viewers who move among them.
Each piece is the result of a manual process in which the artist pours, levels, and finishes the concrete by hand, allowing the material to set into its final form while preserving the traces of its making. The wood platforms, cut and assembled with the same attention to process, provide a counterpoint of texture and temperature. Together, they create a landscape of surfaces that invites walking, pausing, and looking down.
The work continues Rendón's early investigation into the transformation of industrial materials through artisanal methods. Rather than imposing a fixed form, the variable dimensions of the installation respond to the specific conditions of each site, making every presentation unique. The platforms become both sculpture and architecture — objects to be contemplated and spaces to be inhabited.
En Trabajo con Concreto, Ricardo Rendón construye un diálogo entre dos materiales opuestos: la naturaleza fluida y pesada del concreto y la presencia cálida y orgánica de la madera. Las plataformas, dispuestas en configuraciones variables a lo largo del espacio, establecen una relación directa con la arquitectura del Centro Cultural El Atrio y con los cuerpos de los espectadores que se mueven entre ellas.
Cada pieza es el resultado de un proceso manual en el que el artista vierte, nivela y acaba el concreto a mano, permitiendo que el material se solidifique en su forma final mientras conserva las huellas de su elaboración. Las plataformas de madera, cortadas y ensambladas con la misma atención al proceso, proporcionan un contrapunto de textura y temperatura. Juntas, crean un paisaje de superficies que invita a caminar, detenerse y mirar hacia abajo.
La obra continúa la investigación temprana de Rendón sobre la transformación de materiales industriales a través de métodos artesanales. En lugar de imponer una forma fija, las dimensiones variables de la instalación responden a las condiciones específicas de cada sitio, haciendo que cada presentación sea única. Las plataformas se convierten tanto en escultura como en arquitectura — objetos para contemplar y espacios para habitar.
